[ Description ]

Limited//Limitless was created for the tenth anniversary of Ice Follies, the biennial of art on the frozen surface of Lake Nipissing in North Bay. A physical artwork placed on the ice doubles as a target for augmented reality. Scanning a QR code opens the hidden world beneath the surface, the fish and the ecosystem that hold up life above.

The title points to the human and fish relations that have run since the beginning of the Nishinaabeg. Fish relatives are food, spirit, medicine, and livelihood, and they have given their lives for us to survive. The ice is a thin boundary between the limited world we stand on and the limitless one below, and the lens of a phone becomes a way of paying attention to it.
